Becky Luck is a retired naval officer and has a Bachelor of Science degree in human nutrition, food and exercise from Virginia Tech, with a minor in military leadership.
In addition to being a valued part of the team as Health Coach at Ideas by Mike, Becky is also a fitness coach at various gyms in the area. Becky helps clients understand the importance of nutrition and fitness and how to integrate healthy practices and goals into their everyday lives; the true meaning of what it means to be “wellthy.”
Born in Connecticut, she spent the majority of her childhood in Annapolis, Maryland. Becky’s father was a career military officer and she intended to follow in his footsteps. While in college, she was a member of the Corps of Cadets and Navy ROTC. She was commissioned into the Navy where she spent two years before developing a debilitating autoimmune disease, which she initially tried to ignore. “I didn’t want to get sick; my life in the military was all laid out. I didn’t want to have that dream end.”
It did end, but Becky is creative, resilient and brilliant. She loves coaching people about fitness and nutrition, and feels that in many ways her experience with illness helped her to forge a new career helping others. In hindsight, she believes she wasn’t meant to be in the military. “We spend so much money on healthcare and medicine—I’m interested in ways that we can be truly ‘wellthy’ and I want to spend my life exploring ways we can prevent illness from developing and utilize fitness and nutrition to recover from illness and injury,” Becky says.
As part of her passion to learn even more about health, her next dream is to become a physical therapist. In fall of 2021, she will begin attending Hampton University with the goal of getting her doctorate in physical therapy.
When Becky isn’t working, she like to exercise for her own enjoyment. During the pandemic lockdown, when she had to be very careful because of her autoimmune disease, she adopted a hound-mix puppy, Piper, from a local shelter.
